Gabi landed on top of him' - Mikel Merino suffers injury heartbreak as Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta confirms £32m summer signing's debut will be delayed

Merino suffers injury setback

Mikel Merino has suffered an injury setback that will delay his Arsenal debut. The £32m summer signing from Real Sociedad has been ruled out for up to two months with an ankle ligament injury.

The injury occurred in training last week, and Merino has been undergoing treatment at Arsenal's London Colney training ground.

The news is a blow to Arsenal, who were hoping to have Merino available for their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace on August 5.

Arteta confirms injury

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta confirmed the news of Merino's injury in a press conference on Friday.

"Mikel has suffered an ankle ligament injury in training," Arteta said. "He will be out for up to two months."

"It's a big blow for us, but we have other players who can come in and do a job for us."

Merino's Arsenal debut

Merino's Arsenal debut will now be delayed until at least September.

The Spaniard is a versatile midfielder who can play in a number of positions, and he was expected to be a key player for Arsenal this season.

However, he will now have to wait to make his debut for the club.
